Meta reaches an agreement with the University of Alicante for the creation of the Metaverse UA Chair or the responsible development of the Metaverse.
The University of Alicante and Meta have agreed to create the MetaverseUA Chair, which is part of Meta’s XR Programs and Research Fund and aims to promote independent academic research in Europe on ethical and legal aspects of the metaverse, such as preserving digital identity or protecting personal data. To disseminate the results, webinars on controversial aspects and conferences with world-renowned experts will be organized. Directed by Aurelio Lopez-Tarruella Martinez, a professor of Private International Law and co-director of the GIP-Law research group (UA), the chair will collaborate with the following multidisciplinary experts : Gaetano Dimita (Senior Lecturer in International Intellectual property Law, Queen Mary University of London) Julián López (Professor of Civil Law, University of Alicante), Susana Navas (Professor of Civil Law, Autonomous University of Barcelona), Vagelis Papakonstantinou (Professor on Personal Data Protection Law, Free University of Brussels) Paul Przemysław Polański (professor of law, Leon Koźmiński University), Teresa Rodríguez de las Heras (Professor of Commercial Law, Carlos III University), Idoia Salazar (Director of OdiseIA), Luis Ignacio Vicente (PONS IP) and Manuel Desantes (Professor of Private International Law, UA), who will act as the president of the scientific committee.
