III Global Innovation Law and Policy Course
University of Alicante | 5 May – 10 June 2025
We are pleased to announce the launch of the III edition of the Global Innovation Law and Policy Course, an intensive program designed to explore the legal and policy dimensions of innovation in the digital era.
In an increasingly fragmented and fast-moving global landscape, the management of intangible assets such as data, intellectual property, and algorithmic outputs is undergoing profound change. This course examines how enterprise strategies are adapting to new challenges and how international regulation is evolving in response.
Structured into four thematic blocks, the course will address:
- The international regulation of intellectual property, with a focus on regional frameworks, the shift from multilateralism to unilateralism, and comparative innovation policies in major economies.
- Artificial intelligence and copyright, including the legal treatment of AI systems, training data, AI-generated outputs, and open-source licensing models.
- Data regulation, with a particular focus on data protection challenges, the development of European common data spaces, and the emerging legal obligations governing data access and sharing within the EU framework.
- Technological governance, looking at the role of regulatory sandboxes, the growing importance of technical standards, and their intersection with IP law and dispute resolution.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage with an outstanding faculty composed of leading academics, practitioners, and policy experts from across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The course will be directed by Professor Manuel Desantes Real, with coordination by Professor Raúl Ruiz Rodríguez.
